Customer wanted us to build a lean cell to inspection various features on an automotive fan shroud. The lean cell utilized machine vision to inspect for brass inserts, short shots, bent tabs and broken wire clips. An operator would place the shroud in a fixture and activate 2 finger switches. The cameras would inspect the shroud and alert the operator of any defects.
Work performed:
Customer required a piece of automated vision inspection equipment. The machine was capable of inspecting 80 ppm. There were 12 different styles of inserts that can be inspected by this equipment. The equipment utilized commercially available cameras and associated lighting to look for flash on the terminals, gates that were not trimmed, correct style of insert and chips/discoloration in the body.
